Mother’s Day apart from International Women’s Day and Mothering Sunday is a special holiday to celebrate motherhood across the globe just like Father’s Day.

This is a special holiday for honoring mothers, to express enough appreciation for your mom or any other mother figure in your life to show how much they really mean to you. Giving out flowers and writing meaningful quotes on a well-designed card are common things people do on Mother’s Day to make their mom feel special.

A brief history of Mother’s Day

Mother’s day is observed differently in over 40 countries of the world. The American version of Mother’s Day was invented by Anna Jarvis the daughter of Ann Reeve Jarvis in her pursuit to appreciate mothers for the sacrifices that they make and to teach them how to take care of their children. Crying out through many newspapers and political platforms how the majority of American holidays are centered on male achievements, she received financial support to host the first-ever Mother’s Day celebration in the year 1908.

After the successful celebration of her first Mother’s Day, she pushed further to see it added to the national calendar. In 1912 it began to gain momentum as many churches and towns observe Mother’s Day as an annual holiday. Her dream finally came through when President Woodrow Wilson officially approved the second Sunday of May to be the official date for Mother’s Day celebration.
